My bagel is a Schnauzer…
April 14, 2009 – 9:43 amA funny thing happened to me the other day. I was knee deep in my usual heavy-headed thinking, sitting at the computer waxing over the economy. As I took a bite out of my bagel I noticed something strange. My bagel looked oddly similar to a Schnauzer. So much so, that I had to shoot a picture just to prove it to you.
Of course, the occurrence made me think even more. Why is it that humans want to relate everything to everything else? Why is it that we seek meaning in the meaningless? What is our compulsion to make sense of things? After all, sometimes “a cigar is just a cigar.” Used to be, that if it came from above, then it was truth. No other thought was required. Then science came along and sought answers to unanswerable questions. Before long, we adopted the habit of thinking our way through things. But this morning I realized that all the thinking in the world only got us where we are.
Life requires more than thinking, more than feeling or even believing. Sure it asks for all of the above and yet still remains a mystery. Who knows where we’ll go from here. But one thing is certain, no one has the answer. Perhaps when we admit this, we begin to grasp the real truth. That we are not really meant to know after all, simply to be and to try and to love. For those are the things we have within our power, nothing more.

To all my friends who asked:
1. I did eat the rest of the bagel.
2. I did not change it from bagel to beagle.
3. There was no cream chese. I’m vegan. Cheese is cheating.
4. Yeah, I know. !@#$!@# Happens, but so does inspiration…

I’m not so sure that’s a schnauzer. Looks more like a Scotty to me.
