Being another…
May 16, 2009 – 8:33 amEver try to put yourself in someone else’s head? Try to see things through their eyes? I don’t mean in a controlling way, but rather, in a compassionate way. As a writer, sometimes I imagine what it must be like to be another person. What would the world feel like around me? What would I want to say to someone?
It’s an amazing exercise in getting out of yourself. Given some practice, it can actually allow you to forget the trivial nonsense in your own head, or at least allow you to recognize it for what it is. If you choose someone you admire, you may just come to realize that you too can be admirable. If you choose someone you despise, you may just come to understand compassion.
Today, as you go through your day, try to imagine the world through another person’s eyes. Try not to judge them, just be them. See what they see, the way they see it. After a while, you may realize that the persona that is you is just that, a persona.
Happy Day,

One Response to “Being another…”
Right on. I have learned getting into someone else’s head is having two brains instead of one; and seeing thru their eyes creates opportunity to briefly be like my Mother..who had marvelous vision from back of her head!! And Trish, Compassion is comforting to you as well as person you extend such too. We are here, one with another. Was it James who wrote “No Man Is An Island?”
Thank you for your gift of commentary this am.
Luv, gm
