True beauty needs no promotion
May 19, 2009 – 7:41 amVenturing out on this cold morning, I happened upon my butterfly bush, just beginning to set bloom. Although I knew better, I was still drawn to put my nose deep into the blossoms in search of some delicious scent. It always amazes me that some flowers, no matter how brilliant their blossom, have nary a scent at all. Chuckling to myself, a thought occurred to me.
True beauty needs no promotion.
I guess in this modern day of over-stimulating, multi-sensory advertisement, we have become accustomed to overload. It is second nature to be bombarded with the loud, over powering, electric shock of marketing. Like an addiction, the more hype, the more we become desensitized. After a while we find ourselves dulled to the simple nature of things, seeking instead something bigger, better, more. And even then, bigger, better and more cannot hold our interest. Give it a minute and someone will top that too.
Getting off the carousel of hype can be challenging, especially if others see you as a throw back or a contrarian. Do it anyway. Take small steps towards simplicity. You may just be amazed at how little you can live on and if you’re really lucky, those little things will hold great value.
Besides, the best things in life….aren’t things.
Happy Day,

The first step to “de-hyping” ourselves begins with the thumb on the OFF button of the TV remote. As a blind person’s hearing improves, I believe my vision and inner vision improve w/o all the constant noise with which we are bombarded.
thanks for the reminder.

Just as we humans are given different appearances, talents, personalities, etc. to attract friends, mates, partners, so are the botanical creations. As we pay attention we can see that all of creation is given what is necessary for the survival of the species…
Thanks for making us aware of the importance of all creation… Why are we surprised when we discover this natural order …
