Plumeria – a lesson in growth and beauty
May 30, 2009 – 10:15 amSeveral weeks ago I had the opportunity to spend a gift certificate at Hyam’s garden center. If you’ve never been to Hyam’s, it is like Disney World for gardener. Any local gardener will tell you that it’s easy to drop a couple of hundred dollars in one visit but I was determined to stick to my $25.00 gift card – a very difficult thing to do. I found THE plant, a gorgeous Plumeria with a scent so intoxicating, it transports you to the islands.
After getting it home, I researched all of the facts required to keep it in bloom and discovered a very interesting fact: Plumerias only put on new growth after they bloom. No bloom, no growth. (www.plumeria101.com)
Of course this little fact made me ponder the nature of humans. We bloom at different stages throughout our lives and continue to grow and bloom again, but somehow we fail to recognize each stage as blossoming.
Today I hope you will celebrate the fact that you are beautiful at every age. Celebrate your children but also celebrate those other things in life that bloom because of who you are: your career, your community, your extended family, your garden of life.
When I look in the mirror and see gray hairs poking out at my temples, I try to remind myself that I earned everyone of them. They are my growth rings.
Fortunately for us, we continue to grow until we die. Why not continue to bloom?
Happy Day,

how can my baby sister have grey hair?

Grey is so drab. If it’s in your hair, I’m sure it’s really SILVER!(I always figgered with enough of those things, you could weave a halo!

You are so right, every year is good. It isn’t so much what we don’t have, it is what we do have. So if you have a few silver sprouts in your hair..I never noticed..but I appluad you for making silver. Mamma and Daddy used to sing a song I can half way remember. “Darling I am growing older, silver strands among the gold–” that is all I rememeber now..and oh, they were so young! Yet, as I have thought of that the last many, many years, I knew they were really saying “it’s ok when we grow older..I will always love you.” I think I have to go to Hyams and check out your plant.
