Fear based thinking

Fear based thinking can be like layers of nets upon the soul. After a while you get so trapped you can no longer make free choices. They are all made for you.

Fear based thinking can be like layers of nets upon the soul. After a while you get so trapped you can no longer make free choices. They are all made for you.

Ever wonder what makes some people grow and prosper all their lives while others seem to shrink into themselves? Is it curiosity?  Superior intellect? A zest for adventure?  The older I get, the more I think it’s all about fear. How we perceive ourselves in comparison to the rest of the world and what we choose to do about it.

Think about this.  If you spend the majority of your time focusing on measurements, i.e. how you fare compared to everyone else, isn’t that because you’re afraid you’re not good enough?

What if you spend your time perceiving everyone else’s actions as a threat to your welfare?  (Can you believe she wore that dress with those shoes?)

Or desperately searching for the latest and greatest cutting edge toy?  (You’re just not vogue without a smart phone.)

Or clinging to the safety net of a job, a relationship, a way of thinking?

All of these things are fear-based choices.   Sure, each provides a base of security from which you can explore new possibilities but each can also be a trap in itself. The difference lies in the function of each choice. In other words, can you safely say that you choose to do something because it enlarges your being or because it makes you feel safe? And if it’s safety, what is the cost to you?

Something to ponder….
