Seeing the Moon and other positive aspects
November 12, 2008 – 9:43 amLast night I had occasion to witness a glorious moon. Almost full, it’s corona filled the sky, illuminating the clouds in beautiful patterns that my camera could barely capture. When I arrived at my destination, I snapped a few photos and then made mention of its beauty to a friend. My friend stated that she too had been driving around for a while yet hadn’t noticed it until that moment.
It got me thinking. How much do we miss noticing when our heads are down?
In times like these when everyone is talking doom and gloom, when nature itself is coming to a seasonal close, it’s very easy to get swept into a melancholy mood.
One simple remedy, look up, literally. Raise your head and set your sights above the horizon. Years ago I took a defensive driving class and was taught to focus on the area 1 mile ahead of me and only check the side and rear views a few times per minute. This same strategy applies to life.
When you focus forward and above, you have a tendency to see a bigger picture and the immediate cares and concerns become relatively smaller and less urgent. Try it. You may just see something beautiful.
Have a great day.
