The After Christmas Clean-up
December 30, 2008 – 10:28 amDriving home yesterday, I began planning my after Christmas clean up strategy. As the end of 2008 approaches, I feel the urge to clean and get rid of all non-essential items from my space. Perhaps it’s the result of an overly abundant holiday or maybe it comes from a primal instinctive behavior deep in my psyche. Whatever the cause, the urge is overwhelming. Question is, what is non-essential?
Certainly not the 30 pairs of extra underwear my mother felt compelled to give me, nor the 3 dozen she gave me last year, half of which are still in their original package. Not the 102 empty gift boxes and bags that are still good enough to use again next year. Not the 14 trays of homemade cookies that I really don’t need to eat but do anyway..at least until they are too stale for me but perfect for the birds.
“Out with the old and in with the new” they say. But what do you do with the in-between? You know, the brand new $26.95 book you had to buy but have already read. Re-gift? Pass it onto a friend? I am the re-gifting queen. If anyone ever says it’s tacky, I tell them I’m just doing my part for the planet.
I think January should be the official month for re-gifting. Imagine if everyone brought all of their “in-between” items to a central location and let anyone take what they needed.
Oh yeah, they call it Craigslist.
Which just goes to prove there really is no such thing as an original idea.
Happy Day,
Trish
PS – Is anyone desperate for size 6 brand new Fruit of the Loom ladies underwear?
