Permission to be silly

Happy April Fools Day,

Just think, all around the world people are giving themselves permission to be silly, to act without judgment and to have fun. For many adults, this is a scary proposition.  Some of who, in fact, may be thinking, “Oh great, what stupid pranks are going to be played on me today?” I say, carpe diem!  After all, how often do we serious and somber humans actually give each other permission just to be silly?

As children it comes naturally. Little people know that silliness and harmless fun is as vital to our well being as air and food.  My mother used to call it “food for the soul.”

The key is to keep it harmless.  Somehow as we grow up life shifts us from being silly to making others feel silly and then things get distorted.  By the time we are adults we start to loath silliness because it can backfire on our precious and delicate egos.

I hope today you will give yourself permission to exhale, lovingly poke fun at yourself and enjoy a brief respite from your everyday gravity.  Feel the lightness of being that is joy. Who knows, by the time you tuck yourself in tonight you may just be ready to float into pleasant dreams.

Happy Day,
