Strawberries.    Yep, it’s strawberry season in South Carolina.  For the next few weeks, local farms will be open for u-pick strawberries.    (as well as asparagus, garlic, onions, radishes and turnips.)    With the gorgeous weather predicted over the next few days, you may just want to grab your friends, kids and grandkids and head out to pick some of the most delicious fruit of the season.  Fortunately there are several organic farms in our area that offer fresh strawberries for picking or for sale.

(Most commercially  grown strawberries are heavily sprayed with pesticides and fungicides so if you cannot get organic, it is recommended that you soak your berries for at least 20 minutes in a sink full of ice cold water with 1/4 cup of 3% peroxide added.  This will help remove the pesticides and keep the fruit fresh longer.)
